Before we can get to the basics of the phone. First, we must master our mannerism when answering the phone. We must train ourselves to have a few new habits. First off, when we answer the phone, we should answer it with a great big smile. You see, customers on the other side of the phone line can hear if you are smiling because your voice inflections sound completely different. If you don’t believe me, record yourself first without smiling and the second time while smiling. Then play it for others, and see if they can tell in which one you are smiling. Besides that, there have been proven studies that prove your brain releases endorphins when your brain identifies a smile. Endorphins are the primary hormones that allow for enjoyment. So just by smiling, you will make yourself feel better as well as making the customer feel more positive.

The next thing is to enunciate and be excited. Whenever people hear me answer the phone, they are amazed by how elated I sound and how I always get the appointment on every call. Besides that, if you don’t enunciate, you will just end up repeating yourself over and over again. So why not enunciate each word even if it does slow down your greeting. I have a phone ninja that takes her enunciation so seriously that I have had customers hang up because they think she is an auto attendant. The customers were like she sounds so good; it must be a recording.
